The Story
Scarlet the paint tube is born in a world fraught with sectarian violence and blames the Blues, Yellows, and every other color for the destruction of its world. Scarlet sets off on a path of revenge, leading the Reds into battle with one goal: to cleanse the world of its colorfulness. As the Reds defeat their enemies and celebrate their conquest, they become aware of the different shades of red within their ranks. A civil war ensues. The Maroons attack the Vermilions, and the Burgundies kill the Crimsons. As the conflict reaches its bloody conclusion, Scarlet becomes the sole survivor of the war. Standing alone on the battlefield, surrounded by dead paint tubes, Scarlet finally grasps the actual cost of revenge and sectarianism.
I collaborated with the first-year class of 2015, Gaming, Interactive Media, and Mobile Technologies (GIMM), at Boise State University to produce Bleached. Stepping away from my role as a professor, I teamed up with my students to work on every aspect of this film–script, pre-visualization, concept design, animation, music, sound effects, and post-production. The film was shown at the Oscar-qualifying Rhode Island International Film Festival.
